Thornton Veterans Memorial News - October 24, 2006
Greetings to all of our supporters!
Veterans Day is quickly approaching and we feel that is a most appropriate
time to update everyone on not only the project but also some related news.
As always, please remember our website is up to date with all of the latest
news: http://www.thorntonveteransmemorial.org
<http://www.thorntonveteransmemorial.org/> .
* The Thornton Veterans Memorial Foundation Supports the VA's "Veterans
Pride Initiative". The Honorable R. James Nicholson, Secretary of Veterans
Affairs, and leaders of major veterans organizations last week called on
America's veterans to help kindle a new spark of patriotism on Veterans Day
by wearing the medals they earned during military service. The VA is
offering information about the campaign on its Web page,
http://www.va.gov/veteranspride/, where veterans also can obtain information
about how to replace mislaid medals and learn how to confirm the decorations
to which they are entitled.
More information on this initiative can also be obtained on our web site
<http://www.thorntonveteranspark.org/news/> and from the VA's website
<http://www.va.gov/> . The Thornton Veterans Memorial Foundation
wholeheartedly endorses this initiative and hopes all veterans will take
this opportunity to show their pride for their service to this nation! More
information on Veterans Day itself can also be obtained from the VA on this
page: http://www1.va.gov/opa/vetsday/index.asp.
* Join us in honoring our veterans on Veterans Day! On Saturday, November
11th at 12:00pm, there will be a Veterans Day remembrance at the Thornton
civic center. Working in conjunction with the city, TVMF is working to make
this a very special event. The service will be in two parts. The first
will be a memorial service outside with the presentation of colors, the
National Anthem and some select words from the mayor. Everyone will then
move inside to the city council chambers for a showing of the Thornton
veterans' video, comments from some special veterans and their families and
more! Please mark your calendar and we look forward to seeing you there!
Veterans are highly encouraged to dust off those medals and wear them with
pride!
* Paver Brick and Fundraising Campaign Continues. As you know, the
veterans' memorial will be a completely privately funded project and as
such, we are dependent on the community to help us raise funds for this
project. Many of you have already been very generous in your donations and
it is much appreciated but we do have a long way to go! Please consider
making a general contribution or purchasing a paver brick or TVMF related
merchandise to help us in our efforts. The bricks in particular serve as a
perpetual reminder of how much the contributions of veterans meant to this
country and the city. These bricks are a great way to say thank you to our
veterans and with the holidays approaching make a very special gift as well.
You can make donations, order bricks and other merchandise right from our
web site at http://www.thorntonveteransmemorial.org
<http://www.thorntonveteransmemorial.org/> . Just click on the "Online
Store" link!
* The next TVMF meeting will be Monday, November 6, 2006 at 7:00pm. Public
attendance is welcomed and encouraged! Please join us to learn more and
offer up any suggestions or ideas you might have! For more information on
where we meet please

As always, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please don't
hesitate to contact us!
