Thornton Veterans Memorial News - September 1, 2006
Welcome to everyone on our email news list!
As fall approaches, the Thornton Veterans Memorial is kicking things in to
high gear for our capital campaign. There is a lot going on and a lot to
share with you this time.
Thornton Harvest Fest is Saturday, September 9, 2006. The Thornton
Veterans Memorial Foundation has announced its plans for the city of
Thornton's Harvest Fest and it is expected to be very impressive. Harvest
Fest is one of the city's annual festivals and will be happening on
Saturday, September 9th at Community Park at Thornton Parkway and York St.
from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
The day's festivities start at 10:00am with a parade celebrating the city's
50th Anniversary. Over 70 entries have been received so this is no small
parade! The city of Thornton was founded by veterans and everyone felt it
was important to acknowledge the contribution these brave men and women have
made to our city and to our nation.
As such, the Thornton Veterans Memorial will make possibly the biggest
splash in the parade with more than a dozen modern and vintage military
vehicles serving as its entry. The Military Vehicle Collectors of Colorado
(MVCC), with the coordination of member Phil Movish, has jumped in and
agreed to help the veterans' memorial draw attention to its efforts. A wide
range of military vehicles spanning the 20th century are expected to be
there - it should truly be an incredible show.
The parade is not the end of the festivities either. During the festival,
the Thornton Veterans Memorial will have a tent setup in the vendor area of
the park. This is the community's chance to see artist's renderings of the
memorial and learn more about the project and the contributions veterans
have made to our city.
As if the parade and the chance to learn more and support the memorial
aren't enough, the Thornton Veterans Memorial also has a special surprise in
store. The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders will be appearing at the TVMF tent
from 2:00pm to 4:00pm! This is your chance to come by and meet the
cheerleaders, get an autograph and take a picture with one of these ladies.
The cheerleaders will have their recently released 2007 Denver Bronco
Cheerleader calendar for sale with all proceeds going toward the
construction of the memorial.
As the project starts to move into its capital campaign to raise funds for
the project, visitors will have the chance to donate to the cause and
purchase veterans' memorial related merchandise including shirts, hats, pins
and more - all proceeds go toward the construction of the memorial.
Thornton Veterans Memorial Launches Paver Brick Campaign. Perhaps most
notably, the Thornton Veterans Memorial recently announced the start of its
paver brick campaign. These 4" X 8" and 8" X 8" paver bricks can be
purchased and engraved with a message from a citizen or veteran and will be
used to make up the walkways at the memorial. They will serve as a perpetual
reminder of how much the contributions of veterans meant to this country and
the city. These bricks are a great way to say thank you to our veterans and
are a great gift idea as well.
You will be able to purchase the bricks and the other merchandise at the
Thornton Veterans Memorial tent during Harvest Fest. You can also shop from
your home and order any of their merchandise via our web site store at
http://www.thorntonveteransmemorial.org
<http://www.thorntonveteransmemorial.org/> . The paver bricks are an easy
way for citizens to contribute to the memorial in a lasting fashion.
TVMF In the News. We continue to do our best to stay in the local news
and raise awareness of this project. The memorial was recently covered in
the media on TV and in the newspaper.
- Tony Hake, Vice Chairman for the Memorial Foundation recently did
an interview for Comcast Local Edition that can be seen during the months of
August and September. In the four minute interview Tony talks with Anita
Lopez (formerly of KUSA channel 9) about the memorial and the progress
toward making it a reality. If you are a Comcast customer, the interview is
now available on Comcast's "In Demand" section. If you don't have Comcast,
don't worry, we have posted the interview to our web site and you can view
it online. http://www.thorntonveteransmemorial.org/news/
